Graphique

The Haas type foundry in Switzerland first cast Graphique in 1945, after designs by Hermann Eidenbenz, the Swiss graphic artist also known for his Clarendon revival and his poster work. It is a shaded, all-caps display face: narrow sans-serif capitals drawn as outlines with a solid drop shadow, built for headlines, posters and packaging where a single word has to carry the layout. The design survives digitally as Graphique Pro, remastered by Ralph M. Unger for profonts and sold through MyFonts, with a layered Graphique Pro Next expansion by Jörn Oelsner. These free typefaces work the same tall, caps-first display register without the license fee.

FAQ

Common questions about Graphique alternatives

Is Graphique free?
No — Graphique is a commercial typeface from Haas'sche Schriftgiesserei (digital version: profonts). Graphique Pro is a commercial font sold by profonts through MyFonts; the original metal design is not available as a free download. The closest free alternative is Anton, available on Google Fonts.
What font is similar to Graphique?
Anton is the closest free match. A heavy condensed sans, caps-led and tall, that gives Graphique's narrow headline proportions as a solid letter instead of an outline. Pair it with a CSS text-shadow or a duplicated offset layer and you recover most of the lifted, poster-style effect at no cost.
Can I use Anton in commercial projects?
Yes — Anton is published under a free license on Google Fonts and can be used in commercial work. Confirm the license text at the source before shipping.
