About Fjalla One

Fjalla One is Sorkin Type's medium-condensed display grotesque, a single-weight face from 2012 tuned specifically for screens. Contrast is moderate, corners are slightly softened, and a firm vertical rhythm holds the compressed-headline feel together — it's better-mannered than most condensed display type and stays legible at smaller display sizes where the genre usually falls apart.

That forgiveness is what it trades on. It's lighter and less brutal than Impact while keeping the same narrow, stacked-headline character, and it substitutes for Druk with more sturdiness and margin for error at mid sizes. The touch of warmth in its forms makes it a reasonable stand-in for Knockout's mid-width styles in editorial headers. Reach for it when a headline needs to be condensed but also needs to survive at 24px.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

A grammar of empty space
A pairing is a relationship: one voice speaks first, the other answers, and the contrast between them sets the tone for the whole page.

Letters that hold their nerve
Body type does the heavy lifting. Get it right and the reader never thinks about it; get it wrong and they feel it before they can name what is off.
