Feijoa

Klim Type Foundry released Feijoa in 2007, designed by Kris Sowersby as the Wellington foundry's first retail typeface. It is built on one stated principle, that a straight line is a dead line, so every stroke bends slightly and the sharp points and angles that can look harsh on screen are rounded away into something warmer and more human. Klim classifies it as a Garalde oldstyle. The Medium, Italic and Bold are text weights drawn for book typography and long reading, while a separate Display cut handles headlines at 16pt and up. Its fancy ligatures nod to Zuzana Licko's Mrs Eaves. These free serifs work the same soft oldstyle register without the licence fee.

Headlines that read at a glance
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.
