About UnifrakturCook
UnifrakturCook is a heavy fraktur from the UniFraktur project, distributed on Google Fonts, drawn as a bold-only face with real historical grounding behind its letterforms. The blackletter construction is dense and vertical — broken strokes, pronounced angular joins, tight spacing that packs a line into a solid black band — with no lighter companion weight to soften it.
That single-weight density is exactly why it works as a free stand-in for Old English Text in its most common use: one dense masthead, title, or logotype. It's fraktur rather than textura, so the detailing differs from the English blackletter tradition, but at title size the impression is the same. Keep it to a few words set large; blackletter capitals in particular become hard to read once a line runs long.

UnifrakturCook is also a free alternative to…
- Old English Text → A heavy, bold-only fraktur with real historical weight behind it; a strong pick when Old English Text's role is a single dense masthead or title.
- English Towne → A bold Fraktur with heavy, rounded strokes and strong calligraphic swells. It matches English Towne's weight and ceremonial tone but its forms are broken Fraktur rather than straight textura, so the lowercase feels more curved and the capitals more ornate.
