About UnifrakturMaguntia
UnifrakturMaguntia is the most authentic free blackletter on Google Fonts. It's a faithful fraktur digitization from the UniFraktur project that preserves full historical detail rather than approximating the style. It carries genuine period letterforms, including OpenType support for the long s, so text can be set the way a German printed page actually looked rather than merely evoking one.
As a free alternative to Old English Text, it's the scholarly choice. The tradition is fraktur rather than textura, which means the shapes differ from English blackletter in their broken curves and flag-like terminals, but it is unmistakably the real thing rather than a costume version. It suits historical reproduction, editorial and academic work touching German printing, brewery and heritage branding, and anywhere the blackletter needs to survive scrutiny from someone who knows the difference.

- Old English Text → The most authentic free blackletter on Google Fonts — a faithful fraktur digitization with full historical detail, including OpenType features like the long s. Fraktur rather than textura, but unmistakably the real thing.
- English Towne → An open-licensed textura based on the Mainz Fraktur tradition, with the same dense vertical rhythm and diamond-footed stems as English Towne. Its lowercase is a little lighter and more German in detail, and it carries proper OpenType features for historical ligatures and the long s.

The shape of a working week
Two thousand years of letterforms boil down to a handful of decisions — width, weight, proportion. Pick a pair you trust, and let the rest take care of itself.

Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.
