About Roboto
Roboto is Christian Robertson's 2011 neo-grotesque, drawn as Android's system face and vetted at every size and surface a system font ever meets. Its letterforms are largely geometric but built on humanist principles, giving it tight, contemporary proportions, rational shapes, and easy reading at any size — friendly without turning soft. The license is permissive and the rendering is reliable everywhere.
Against Arial it is the pragmatic modern upgrade: the same neutrality, tighter forms, vastly better screen rendering. The humanist underpinning puts it close to Frutiger and Univers, and its clean, engineered clarity covers most of what DIN gets used for. For Coinbase Sans it serves as an everyday stand-in at body sizes. The strongest argument is deployment — for cross-platform work, few faces have been tested this thoroughly.
