About Poiret One

Poiret One is Denis Masharov's 2011 hairline geometric display face, and the most overtly art-deco typeface in this collection. Strokes are uniformly thin, the geometry is circular and precise, and the proportions carry the elongated elegance of Jazz Age poster lettering. There is one weight and it is very light; the design has no interest in mass.

Kabel has a deco side and a workhorse side, and Poiret One takes only the first — the Jazz Age glamour, without the utility. That makes it a narrow but effective free alternative: set it large for fashion editorial, event invitations, spirits packaging, and title sequences that want the period signal. Below headline size the hairlines vanish, and with a single thin weight there's no fallback, so it needs a sturdier companion for everything else on the page.

A grammar of empty space
Body type does the heavy lifting. Get it right and the reader never thinks about it; get it wrong and they feel it before they can name what is off.
