About MedievalSharp
MedievalSharp, by Wojciech Kalinowski, is a carved medieval lettering face rather than a true blackletter — angular and period in flavor, but drawn to stay legible in running text. The strokes have the chiseled, faceted quality of letters cut into stone or wood, with sharp entry and exit angles and a broken outline. It reads gothic without the dense vertical thicket of a textura, so words stay recognizable at moderate sizes.
That legibility is the argument for it over stricter answers to Old English Text. A real blackletter is close to unreadable in a paragraph; MedievalSharp carries the same historical signal while remaining usable for more than a single line. It suits game interfaces, event materials, and book covers that need a medieval register but can't afford to lose the reader inside the letterforms.
