Kaushan Script
A free alternative to Monotype Corsiva.
About Kaushan Script
Kaushan Script is a brush-drawn casual script from Pablo Impallari, distributed through Google Fonts, with the energetic forward lean of a marker moving quickly across a page. The strokes are shaped by a broad brush rather than a pointed pen, so weight shifts follow the pressure and speed of the hand instead of the tidy thick-thin logic of formal calligraphy. Letters join loosely, and a lively baseline keeps the rhythm informal throughout.
That looseness is what makes it a workable free stand-in for Monotype Corsiva. Corsiva is the calmer, pen-drawn relative, and Kaushan Script doesn't imitate it directly — but the two share an italic motion and a handwritten register, and a great deal of Corsiva's use was habit rather than deliberate choice. Where that's the case, Kaushan Script reads as the more contemporary option: better suited to invitations, packaging, and headline flourishes than to running text.
