About Gulax

Gulax is a display typeface by Morgan Gilbert, published free through Velvetyne. It is a tall, semi-condensed face built from an unconventional mix of curved and angular strokes, with idiosyncratic letter constructions that give it a distinctly experimental character.

It is unambiguously a display face: at large sizes the quirky forms read as confident and graphic in a headline or logotype, but they close up and lose legibility at text sizes. Reach for it when a title or poster wants an unusual, characterful look rather than a neutral one. Distributed under the Open Font License, self-hosted here.

Display + body that work together

A grammar of empty space
Body type does the heavy lifting. Get it right and the reader never thinks about it; get it wrong and they feel it before they can name what is off.

The shape of a working week
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.
