About Gilda Display

Gilda Display is Eduardo Tunni's high-contrast display serif, drawn with smooth thick-to-thin transitions and refined serifs and distributed through Google Fonts. The name is instruction as much as label: the contrast that gives it presence in a headline is exactly what thins away at text sizes, and the serifs are fine enough that the face needs room to resolve properly.

The register it is aiming at is fashion, jewelry, and luxury, which puts it opposite Canela — and it turns up regularly in roundups of Canela alternatives. Both trade on refined high-contrast serifs doing editorial work at large sizes. Reach for Gilda Display on lookbooks, product pages, and magazine-style openers where the headline sets the tone and the body copy is handled by something plainer underneath.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

Headlines, written under pressure
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.

A grammar of empty space
Two thousand years of letterforms boil down to a handful of decisions — width, weight, proportion. Pick a pair you trust, and let the rest take care of itself.
