About Familjen Grotesk

Familjen Grotesk is a contemporary grotesque drawn by Kristian Möller and released in 2021, made for both text and display and marked by pronounced ink traps. Those traps are its signature — notches cut into the joins that read as deliberate sharp detailing at size and give the letterforms visible character rather than neutral service. The proportions stay current; the temperament is confident, verging on stylized.

Among paid faces it lands closest to Apercu, sharing the same character-forward personality and the same contemporary-brand register. The divergence is that flavor: Apercu is the more restrained drawing, and Familjen Grotesk's ink traps add an edge Apercu does not have. That makes it the more stylized of the two and the better pick for headlines, wordmarks, and display settings where the detailing has room to be seen.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

Letters that hold their nerve
A pairing is a relationship: one voice speaks first, the other answers, and the contrast between them sets the tone for the whole page.

Headlines, written under pressure
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.
