Cormorant SC
A free alternative to Copperplate Gothic.
About Cormorant SC
Cormorant SC is the small-caps cut of Christian Thalmann's Cormorant, released in 2015 in five weights with the family's delicate high-contrast garalde detailing intact. Setting capitals against small capitals gives it an engraved, formal texture across a line, though the strokes carry Renaissance modulation rather than the even monoline of a true engraver's face.
That texture puts it within reach of both Copperplate Gothic and Trajan Pro. It sits farther from Copperplate's engraved monoline — the contrast is too refined for a literal match — but produces the same caps-and-small-caps color that upscale branding and invitations depend on. Against Trajan it is the closer of the two, detailed finely enough to hold up in display headlines. Keep it large: the hairlines thin out quickly once the setting drops toward text size.

Cormorant SC is also a free alternative to…
- Copperplate Gothic → The small-caps cut of the Cormorant family in five weights, giving you Copperplate's caps-and-small-caps texture with a refined garalde flavor. Its delicate contrast is farther from the engraved monoline, but it excels for upscale branding and invitations.
- Trajan Pro → The small-caps subfamily of Christian Thalmann's Cormorant. Higher contrast and more refined detailing than Marcellus SC — closer to the elegance of Trajan at display sizes, especially in headline use.
