About Victor Mono
Victor Mono is a monospaced typeface released in 2019 by Rune Bjørnerås, a Norwegian front-end developer, and published under the SIL Open Font License. It is built narrow and slender for a fixed-pitch design, with a large x-height and clear, distinct punctuation so symbols in code stay legible at small sizes. The family covers seven weights from thin to bold, now shipped as a variable font with a weight axis and an italic axis. Its signature is the italic: a semi-connected cursive, drawn separately from the roman rather than slanted, which reads almost like handwriting in a terminal.
It is made for editors, terminals and code samples, where the cursive italic gives comments, keywords and types a second voice without changing the typeface. Optional ligatures join common programming symbols, and stylistic sets add slashed zeros and a slashed seven. On the web it is a free stand-in for paid coding fonts with cursive italics such as Operator Mono and Dank Mono.
