About Rock Salt

Rock Salt is a handwriting typeface by Sideshow, the Google Fonts imprint of Font Diner, Inc. Google added it to its library in January 2011 and the copyright notice dates the design to 2010. It ships as one regular weight with Latin coverage. The letters were drawn with felt-tip markers and keep the evidence: strokes are dry and ragged at the edges, caps are tall and irregular, and the baseline bounces from letter to letter. There is no attempt at polish, and that is the point. It looks like someone wrote the words on a sign five minutes ago.

Use it at display sizes for headlines, menu boards, posters, event flyers, stickers and anything meant to feel handmade or in a hurry. It pairs well with a plain grotesque or geometric sans for body copy. Rock Salt is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, so it can be used freely in commercial print and digital work, and it stands in for paid marker and sign-painter fonts without the license fee.
