Roboto Mono

Roboto Mono is Google's monospaced companion to Roboto, drawn by Christian Robertson and released in 2015 as a contemporary, screen-tuned fixed-width face rather than a typewriter revival. It carries Roboto's proportions into a monospace grid, so the letterforms stay recognizably grotesque — upright, even in color, and legible down to small code sizes — while the fixed advance width does the alignment work.

That modern finish is what separates it from Courier, the face it most commonly replaces. Courier brings slab serifs and a distinctly mechanical, inked-ribbon character; Roboto Mono keeps the column alignment and drops the typewriter aesthetic entirely. Pick it for code blocks, terminals, data tables, and technical UI where monospaced structure is needed but a retro register would be wrong — especially in products already set in Roboto, where the two families sit together naturally.
