About Quattrocento
Quattrocento is Pablo Impallari's 2011 classical serif, a wide and dependable text face with sturdy serifs and a distinctly early-1900s American flavor. The proportions run generous, the capitals are open, and the whole design carries the settled, institutional quality of turn-of-the-century book and jobbing type.
Those qualities make it a workable free stand-in for Cheltenham, particularly at larger display sizes where its width and sturdiness read most clearly. It also gets convincingly close to Copperplate Gothic's law-firm register when the capitals are letterspaced and set all-caps — not an engraved face, but close enough in register, and with the significant advantage of handling lowercase body text, which none of the caps-only alternatives can.
