About Poly

Poly is a medium-contrast serif designed by Nicolás Silva and published on Google Fonts in 2011 under the SIL Open Font License. Its defining proportions are a very high x-height and short ascenders, paired with glyph widths tuned so lines hold more characters without feeling cramped. Silva built it for agglutinative languages, whose long compound words punish wide, airy serifs, and the result is a face that reads well at small sizes and in narrow measures. The family ships as a regular and an italic, with OpenType features and Latin Extended coverage that reaches Native South American languages.

Use Poly for body text in articles, documentation, and layouts where line length is tight and every character counts. It suits long-form reading on screens because the large lowercase keeps counters open at text sizes. It stands in for compact commercial text serifs where you need density and legibility rather than display flourish, and its single weight pair keeps the download light.

Display + body that work together

Headlines that read at a glance
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.

A grammar of empty space
Two thousand years of letterforms boil down to a handful of decisions — width, weight, proportion. Pick a pair you trust, and let the rest take care of itself.
