Libre Baskerville

Libre Baskerville is Pablo Impallari and Rodrigo Fuenzalida's 2012 revival of the 1941 American Type Founders Baskerville, redrawn for body text on screens. The x-height runs taller and the counters wider than the metal models, while the identifying details survive the translation intact: the iconic open g, the sharp b-stroke, the wavy Q.

Impallari puts it at roughly ninety percent similarity to Monotype Baskerville, which makes it the default free substitute wherever a Baskerville setting has to survive being read on a screen. It is also the obvious first stop for Mrs Eaves, sharing her ATF ancestry directly — with one caveat. It inverts her signature trait, running a tall web-optimized x-height where hers is famously low, so it matches her letterforms far more closely than her proportions.
