Josefin Slab
A free alternative to Archer.
About Josefin Slab
Josefin Slab is a geometric slab serif Santiago Orozco published in 2010, built on 1930s proportions and an airy, elegant construction. It runs light by default, and the slabs are applied to an unmistakably geometric skeleton, which gives the face a drawn, delicate quality rather than the solid presence slabs usually bring. Vintage in reference without reading as pastiche.
It is the free stand-in most often named for Archer, and the citation holds up — both are geometric slabs working a warm period register. The differences are worth knowing: Josefin Slab runs much lighter than Archer and has none of the ball terminals that give Archer its friendliness, so it reads delicate where Archer reads approachable. Use it when the tone wanted is elegant and period-inflected rather than warm and conversational.
