Italiana
A free alternative to Quiche Sans.
About Italiana
Italiana is a high-contrast display serif Santiago Orozco released in 2012, drawn with crisp, almost-sans terminals that cut the serifs back to nearly nothing. The contrast does the work: hairline thins against confident stems, generous width, and a restraint that reads as expensive. It is a single weight and display-only by design — nothing in the drawing is meant to survive at paragraph sizes.
In free type it is the closest thing in spirit to Quiche Sans, trading on the same runway elegance and the same reduced, high-fashion serif treatment. Quiche Sans has the family depth Italiana lacks, so the substitution works page by page rather than system-wide. Set it large on fashion editorial, beauty packaging, and title cards, and give it a plain sans to carry everything underneath.
