About Geist Mono

Geist Mono is the monospaced half of Geist, the type system Vercel released in 2023 and distributes through Google Fonts. It is code type with a Swiss accent: crisp, tightly drawn characters on a fixed advance width, following the same rational, unornamented logic that runs through the rest of the family. Nothing in the drawing is decorative — the face is built to be read at small sizes for long stretches, in terminals and in documentation.

As a free monospace it earns its place on temperament rather than novelty. Geist Mono suits developer tooling, technical documentation, code blocks set inside editorial layouts, and interface work where the surrounding type is already neutral and geometric. Its most natural pairing is Geist itself; using the two together gives a product and its docs one consistent voice. Where a project needs a code face that reads as designed rather than defaulted to, it holds up.

Display + body that work together

Letters that hold their nerve
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.
