About Figtree

Figtree is a geometric-humanist sans drawn by Erik Kennedy in 2022 for web and mobile interfaces, with the explicit brief of being friendly without turning cutesy. Rounded terminals, a single-story 'a', clean geometric curves, and a variable weight axis tuned for screens give it a compact, contemporary texture in buttons, labels, and body copy.

That brief is the one Airbnb Cereal answered, and Figtree sits close to Cereal, gg sans, and Circular in product UI. It reads a little lighter than Gotham's stockier design, tracks Amazon Ember in body text, and lands near Larsseit's balance of warmth and neutrality. Against Myriad it is the more contemporary option, which suits marketing pages that want the same friendliness with a fresher edge. At large sizes it approaches SF Pro Display's roundness, which makes it a headline substitute there rather than a text one.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

Letters that hold their nerve
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.

Pages that earn the read
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.
