About Comic Neue
Comic Neue is Craig Rozynski's 2014 redrawing of casual comic lettering — the 'Comic Sans, redeemed' project — released through Google Fonts. Its premise is that the tone was never the problem, the execution was. Rozynski kept the informal, hand-lettered register and rebuilt it with regularized curves, consistent stroke weights, and proper italics, so the family coheres the way a designed typeface should instead of wobbling from letter to letter.
It's the pick when the friendliness of Comic Sans is genuinely wanted and the craft objections aren't — children's material, casual interfaces, comics, anything that needs to sound unbuttoned but still hold up in a design review. What it doesn't do is match Comic Sans metrically. The letterforms are their own drawing, so an existing document will reflow when it's swapped in; a metric-compatible clone is the better tool when fidelity to an old file is the actual requirement.
