About Cabin
Cabin is a humanist-leaning neo-grotesque drawn by Pablo Impallari in 2011, built on the early twentieth-century geometric tradition rather than the Swiss one. Impallari worked explicitly from Edward Johnston's London Underground alphabet and Eric Gill's typefaces, and the lineage shows: the lowercase g keeps a distinctive double-storey form, and the whole face carries an engineered honesty softened by humanist proportion.
That pedigree makes it a direct free stand-in for DIN and Gill Sans. Against DIN it reads slightly warmer and less mechanical while holding the same rational, drafted logic; against Gill Sans it is closest in the lowercase, where the ancestry is literal rather than approximate. Reach for it on Google Fonts for signage-adjacent work, wayfinding, and interface type that wants some engineering in its bones and none of the coldness.
