About Archivo Black
Archivo Black is Omnibus-Type's heavy grotesque display face — sheer blackness carried on normal proportions rather than the extreme condensation that usually accompanies it. It descends from the late-19th-century American display tradition: sturdy, wide-set, unfussy, with a solid vertical rhythm that survives being set enormous. In all caps it hits about as hard as a free grotesque can.
That width is the whole substitution logic. It stands in for Druk Wide rather than Druk's condensed cuts, spreading the same weight across roomier proportions, and it carries Impact's punch into headlines that need a little more air. For the heaviest Lemon Milk Bold jobs — thumbnails, posters, anything read at a glance — it lands harder still. Reach for it when a layout needs mass without compression, and when the alternative would have been squeezing Impact tighter than it wants to go.
