About Alegreya SC

Alegreya SC is a small-caps serif by Juan Pablo del Peral, distributed on Google Fonts, with more weight and presence than most caps faces of its kind. The detailing is calligraphic rather than engraved: strokes that carry a written inflection, and a warmth that keeps the capitals from turning severe when set in a run. That sturdiness is the practical quality — it holds its color in running headers and labels instead of thinning out the way finer small-caps designs do.

Against Copperplate Gothic it matches the solidity, which is the harder half of the substitution. Copperplate's authority comes from mass and tiny incised serifs; Alegreya SC gets to a similar density by other means, trading the engraver's line for readability. Choose it for headers, nameplates, menus, and labels that want Copperplate's formal register without its brittleness at text sizes.

The shape of a working week
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.

A grammar of empty space
Body type does the heavy lifting. Get it right and the reader never thinks about it; get it wrong and they feel it before they can name what is off.
