About Alegreya Sans

Alegreya Sans is Juan Pablo del Peral's humanist sans, released in 2013 with visible calligraphic energy in its strokes. This is a sans with a serif designer's instincts behind it, and the modulation shows at larger sizes. The forms are warm and friendly, the counters open, and the rhythm lively enough to give long passages a distinct editorial voice rather than neutral gray.

That expressiveness makes it a good answer to FF Meta when the Meta role calls for more character — the same open counters and lively text rhythm, dialed up. It works in Gill Sans's register too: different reference points behind the drawing, but the same humanist voice and the same readability at body sizes, with more contemporary detailing. Choose it for editorial layouts and long-form reading where a neutral corporate sans would flatten the tone.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

Headlines, written under pressure
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.

The shape of a working week
Body type does the heavy lifting. Get it right and the reader never thinks about it; get it wrong and they feel it before they can name what is off.
