Aldrich

Aldrich is a squared sans drawn by Matt Desmond and published through Google Fonts in 2011, built in a single weight with boxy counters and flat shoulders. The construction is unambiguously technical: letterforms squeezed toward the rectangle, horizontals held straight across the shoulders, and a slightly condensed cut that gives the alphabet a machined, industrial rhythm. With only one weight in the family, it's a display face by design rather than a text workhorse.

That squared skeleton is what makes it a usable free stand-in for Eurostile. Aldrich leans hard into the same aesthetic — the rounded-rectangle geometry that made Eurostile shorthand for instrument panels and science-fiction credits — while running narrower and more austere than the original. Reach for it in headers, badges, and tech branding, where a single strong weight is all a layout needs; for anything requiring weight contrast or extended body copy, look elsewhere.
