Slabo 27px
A free alternative to Rockwell.
About Slabo 27px
Slabo 27px is a geometric slab serif drawn by John Hudson at Tiro Typeworks and released in 2013, optimized for one specific rendering size: 27 pixels. Rather than serving a general text range, its outlines and spacing are tuned so that stems and slab serifs land cleanly on the pixel grid at that size, producing unusually sharp headline rendering on screen.
As a free alternative it fills Rockwell's role — the confident, squared-off slab headline — with a more rational, screen-native construction. The size specificity is both the constraint and the appeal: it's the right pick when the headline size is fixed and known in advance, which is why it shows up so often in web advertising and display units. For flexible or responsive type sizes, a general-purpose slab is the safer choice.
