Reddit Sans is the open-source brand family Stephen Hutchings drew for Reddit in 2023, distributed through Google Fonts. It sits between geometric and grotesque: a geometric roundness gives it approachable, informal warmth, while the grotesque skeleton underneath keeps it orderly at small sizes. The whole family is tuned for density — the environment it was made for is a feed of user-written text on a phone, read quickly and scrolled past.
That brief is what makes it useful well beyond Reddit. It's a strong free choice for content-heavy interfaces — comment threads, forums, chat, news apps — where type has to stay friendly without getting in the way of a great deal of copy. Reddit Sans reads warmer than a strictly neutral sans and more disciplined than a fully geometric one, a middle ground that is hard to find in free type.
