About Petit Formal Script

Petit Formal Script is Pablo Impallari's formal script for Google Fonts, drawn with a gentler slant and sturdier strokes than the genre usually allows. The restraint is deliberate: where formal scripts tend toward thin, steeply angled flourishes, this one stays upright in temperament and keeps enough stroke weight to hold together — making it unusually legible for a face of its kind.

That upright reserve puts it closest to Kuenstler Script among the paid options, and it takes on the certificate and stationery work ITC Zapf Chancery has traditionally handled. Because it was built to survive at smaller sizes, it can carry names, invitations, and short lines of body-adjacent text rather than living only at display scale — the usual limitation of free scripts.

Display + body that work together

Pages that earn the read
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.
A grammar of empty space
Two thousand years of letterforms boil down to a handful of decisions — width, weight, proportion. Pick a pair you trust, and let the rest take care of itself.
