About Instrument Serif
Instrument Serif is a single-weight display serif by Jordan Egstad and Rodrigo Fuenzalida, commissioned by the agency Instrument and released through Google Fonts in 2023. It is drawn for size: narrow proportions, marked contrast, and sharp, finely cut serifs that only resolve properly in headline settings. The one weight functions as a decision rather than a limitation — the face has a fixed voice, elegant and slightly editorial, and makes no attempt to stretch into text work.
It fills the role a licensed display serif usually occupies in a brand system: the headline face, set large, with a neutral sans handling everything underneath. This site uses it for exactly that — every heading here is Instrument Serif. Reach for it on editorial covers, landing-page statements, and titling where type is meant to be looked at as much as read, and set it tight; the drawing rewards close spacing.
