About Host Grotesk

Host Grotesk is a uniwidth sans-serif variable font from Element Type, designed by Doğukan Karapınar, mastered by İbrahim Kaçtıoğlu and first released in 2023. It is built on Jonny Pinhorn's Poppins, with most letters reworked. Its strokes have low contrast and its terminals are closed. Weight runs on a single axis from 300 to 800, and every weight has a matching italic. The defining trait is uniform letter widths and spacing across all weights and italics, so a line of text keeps its length when the weight or style changes.

That makes it practical for interfaces: buttons, tabs, hover states and navigation that change weight without shifting the layout. It is tuned for both display sizes and small body text. In Google results it is compared with Aeonik, and it gives the same neutral geometric-grotesque tone for product UI and brand work without a commercial license.

Pairings

Display + body that work together

Pages that earn the read
Crisp, even strokes give the display its punch. Quiet serifs underneath stay readable across thousands of words — used together by editors at the kind of paper that still prints corrections.

A grammar of empty space
A pairing is a relationship: one voice speaks first, the other answers, and the contrast between them sets the tone for the whole page.
