Gelasio is Eben Sorkin's metric-compatible companion to Georgia, released on Google Fonts in 2019. It has since been expanded into a variable font with true italics, and it matches Georgia's widths and vertical metrics exactly, so text set in Georgia reflows identically.
That makes it the definitive drop-in webfont replacement for Georgia and the first alternative worth trying. Beyond the swap, it works as a warm, round text serif with generous curves and friendly color: it carries Cheltenham's sturdy, approachable solidity without the period quirks, and it delivers Means's warmth at paragraph sizes without display-level eccentricity.
