About Crete Round

Crete Round is a softly rounded slab serif from TypeTogether, released on Google Fonts in 2012 in two styles, regular and italic. The rounding defines it: terminals ease off rather than cutting square, which takes the hardness out of the slab and leaves a warm, approachable texture on the page. The italic is a genuine companion design rather than a slant, and the pair is enough to carry headings and shorter passages in a consistent voice.

That register lands squarely on Archer — arguably the closest emotional match among free faces, catching the friendly, unintimidating quality that made Archer a house typeface for editorial and identity work. The limit is range: two styles can't cover Archer's weight spread, so hierarchies built on light-through-black contrast won't translate. Use it where tone matters more than the ladder — headlines, decks, packaging, and text set in short runs.

Headlines, written under pressure
A pairing is a relationship: one voice speaks first, the other answers, and the contrast between them sets the tone for the whole page.
