About Architects Daughter

Architects Daughter is a handwriting font by Kimberly Geswein, released in 2010 and added to Google Fonts in 2011. It is based on the handwriting of an architect's daughter, and it keeps the squared, graphic look of architectural lettering: separate print letters, a fairly even stroke and blocky proportions. A looser everyday hand stops it from feeling mechanical. The family has one upright regular weight.

The font is a good fit for sketches, plans and annotations, mock-ups and wireframes, casual headings, and any interface or poster that needs to look hand-lettered while staying readable. It stands in for Adobe's Graphite (sold as Graphite MM), a commercial upright handwriting typeface that David Siegel based on the hand of a San Francisco architect. Architects Daughter has none of Graphite's multiple-master weight and width axes, but it reproduces the same draftsman's printed lettering at no cost.

Display + body that work together

Quiet type that does the work
The display sets the register; the body follows through. When both halves of a pair pull in the same direction, the design disappears and the words come forward.
