TT Norms Pro vs TT Commons
Two bestselling sans-serifs from the same St. Petersburg foundry, TypeType, and both are commercial. TT Norms Pro is the studio's flagship geometric sans with classic proportions and a neutral, monoline feel, while TT Commons began in 2016 as TypeType's own corporate typeface — a neat, low-contrast sans that leans closer to neo-grotesque territory.

- TT Norms Pro (first released 2017, led by Ivan Gladkikh with Pavel Emelyanov, Antonina Zhulkova and Marina Khodak) is built on geometric forms with classic proportions, and was the bestselling geometric sans on MyFonts in its launch year.
- TT Commons (Pavel Emelyanov, released 2018) was drawn to be expressive yet neutral and simple, with minimal stroke contrast, a closed aperture and deliberately no decorative details, which TypeType pitches for small sizes and long text.
- TT Commons Pro, the 2021 redraw, moved to standard cap and x-height proportions and rounder ovals after the Classic version's smaller, diamond-shaped forms made it look bolder and sit awkwardly in UI buttons.
- Both Pro families ship as variable fonts with Condensed, Normal and Expanded widths plus a Mono companion, and both are priced from $47.99 per style or around $659 for the complete collection, so licensing cost is a factor either way.
- TT Commons also survives as the cheaper 21-style TT Commons Classic family, whereas TT Norms Pro exists only in its Pro form.
Reach for TT Norms Pro when you want a polished, recognisably geometric brand voice for identities, marketing sites and headlines, with deep Cyrillic and multilingual coverage.
Reach for TT Commons for quieter, grotesque-flavoured text in app interfaces, editorial layouts and corporate documents, where its low contrast and plain forms stay legible at small sizes.
