GT America vs ABC Favorit
Two commercial grotesques that have become default picks for studios wanting something more characterful than Helvetica. GT America, released by Grilli Type in 2016, is a bridge between 19th-century American Gothics and 20th-century Swiss Neo-Grotesks, while ABC Favorit, from Dinamo, mixes geometric rigidity with deliberate quirks and a dose of humour.

- GT America (Noël Leu with Seb McLauchlan) is a huge system: six widths from Compressed to Expanded plus Mono, seven weights from Ultra Light to Black, 84 styles in total.
- ABC Favorit (Johannes Breyer and Fabian Harb, developed 2013–2017) is a low-contrast grotesque with intentional oddities, with Mono, Extended, Expanded, Compressed, Condensed and a Lining version with a built-in smart underline.
- GT America adjusts stroke behaviour across weight and width, so bolder cuts get steeper terminal angles while the caps stay relatively condensed, which keeps it neutral and workmanlike at any size.
- ABC Favorit's alternates for a, y, R, G, the ampersand and the @ sign let you dial its quirkiness up or down, giving it a more branded, playful voice than GT America's restraint.
- Both are paid retail fonts with free trials rather than open licences, so licensing cost is a real factor for either, and GT America's 84-style family in particular adds up.
